Once again, we are proud to be hosting the SA Yard Dog Association 2025 State Championships, and as always, there is the Blue Yakka Trail for the children.
There are entertainment options for both young and old, and many food and locally sourced wines.
2025 Coprice South Australian Yard Dog Championship
This Year, “Kelpie Korner” and the South East Field Days are hosting the South Australian Yard Dog State Championship.
“Kelpie Korner” is where all the action will occur in the northwestern corner of Yakka Park. Top dogs and competitors from South Australia and Interstate will converge on the venue to compete for lucrative prize money, trophies, and the honour of being crowned the 2025 Coprice South Australian Yard Dog Champion. Dogs, handlers, and support teams will travel to Lucindale to contest the following classes: Encourage, Maiden, Novice, Novice Championship, Improver, Open, and State Championship.
Last year’s State Champions, Handler Wayne Gelvin and Yanven Kenny from Tintinara, will be back to defend their title, as will previous championship winners Lyndon Cooper, Josh Latty, Lee Mickan, and Lucindale’s own Rex Hocking.
With the Victorian Yard Dog Championship being held at Natimuk the week after the Field Days, many of Australia’s best dogs and handlers will use the SAYDA Championships as a warm-up for the Victorian Championships.
There will be puppies on display, always a hit with the kids.
The first events kick off on Thursday, March 20th, with the Maiden class on Course 2 and the Improver and Novice Championship Classes on Course 1. The first rounds of the Open and Novice classes are programmed for Friday, and the State Championship will be finalised on Saturday. Saturday will also see the Encourage class, which attracts new handlers to trialling and is very popular with their supporters and the public.
