You have to be qualified to be able to dive the many sinkholes and caves in the Mount Gambier area, and if you’re ready for it, there are lots to explore.
What makes the sinkhole such a popular attraction is its similarity to cenotes – air-clean water, the numerous underwater caves, the petrification on them, wall graffiti, and many small marine animals that thrive beneath the surface.
Keep in mind that most of the caves and sinkholes in the country are located on private property. It’s best to get in touch with the Cave Divers Association of Australia (CDAA) if you’re keen to dive in the Pines Sinkhole.
