The Aquatic Centre located on Margaret Street will close on 29 February 2020 and the Olympic swimming pool will remain closed for the 2020/2021 season until the hub project is completed in late 2021
The Mount Gambier Aquatic Centre is one of the region’s most popular family-friendly leisure destinations.
It was built back in the 1980s to serve as the community outdoor pool, and today is still widely used for a number of swim programs and lessons.
Mount Gambier Aquatic Centre Pool Entry Prices, Opening Hours & Swim Lessons
The wading pool is 31 degrees; typically used for rehabilitation exercises, recreational swimming, and lower level swimming lessons. The toddler’s pool, heated to 27 degrees, is ideal for toddlers and their caregivers to swim and wade about.
The centre also has a number of other recreational facilities including barbecue rentals and a beach volleyball court. Amenities include a car park, coach parking, parents’ room, picnic area, and public toilets. Assistance for the disabled is available on site and free Wi-Fi is even provided within the centre.
A variety of swimming programs are offered for all ages and levels; each with their own corresponding prices for enrolment.
Recent upgrades and renovations have made the Mount Gambier Aquatic Centre one of the greenest pools in the country. This is due to the instalment of a 68kW solar system which was installed on the rooftop, which is now responsible for generating all the electricity used in the centre.
The Mount Gambier Aquatic Centre is located at 5A Margaret Street, Mount Gambier. It’s open 6 days a week from October through March.
Is the pool open yet after renovations?
Hi Anna,
Based on the latest information i could find, the expected completion date is listed as March 2022.
It seems like the project has experienced delays due to COVID and also the availability of specifically sized timber.
Thanks
Michael
Is the aquatic centre open yet after the reno????
Hi Rebecca,
According to the official press release at https://www.mountgambier.sa.gov.au/news/aquatic-centre-closure, the aquatic centre project was initially expected to be completed in late 2021.
From a news article at https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-12-15/mount-gambier-community-and-recreation-hub-takes-shape/12985100 though, it’s now stated that the centre is now expected to be open in 2022 – so there really doesn’t seem to be an accurate timeframe of when things will be reopening again.
I couldn’t seem to find any official channels for the aquatic centre, so all i can suggest is following the local news for any new developments.
Thanks
Michael
Hi Rebecca,
Following on from my last email, according to https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-08-28/mount-gambier-community-and-recreation-hub-cost-increase/12601204, the City of Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin stated that “The Community and Rec Hub and the outdoor pool will be ready in March 2022, with the overall project completion is expected to be May 2022”.
Thanks
Michael
