Millicent Civic and Arts Centre

The Millicent Civic and Arts Centre is one of South Australia’s finest art galleries.

Since its opening in 1990, they have been known for showcasing world-class exhibits covering a diverse range of topics.

The museum underwent a renovation in 2004 to make way for more exhibitions. In 2015, they announced a program that would promote more local artists as well as events through regular and state exhibits. These have included the Wattle Range Art Show, Wattle Range Photographic Exhibition, as well as The Group of Five and SALA Exhibition, which were focused on promoting young artists.

The Millicent Civic and Arts Centre is of particular interest to photographers and fans of the art. The Limestone Coast and other local photographers support shows here; every year, there are winners that showcase a photographer to look out for. Some of the local photographers who have been awarded include Sonya Francis, Margaret Carter, Charles Prime, Luke Wehmann, and many others.

If you are visiting, look out for their exhibits. They also have a yearly exhibition called the Group of Seven Plus One, which promotes mentoring local artists – especially those who haven’t had a chance to display their work in the past.

Aside from showcasing art, the Millicent Civic and Arts Centre is also committed to education in the arts. They work together with the district, as well as local schools, to help showcase students’ art. Previously successful shows include Where The Wild Things Are, and the Millicent High School and Learning Centre Exhibition.

The Millicent Civic and Arts Centre is located at the Civic Centre Complex on Ridge Terrace in Millicent.
