Make the most out of your experience by incorporating a tour to the Blanche Cave as well. It was discovered in 1845, making it the first cave ever found in Naracoorte. For several years, it served as a community and social space for locals since it was ideal for picnics and outdoor activities during the summer. Today, Blanche Cave is listed as a national and world heritage site.
In both caves, summer is ideal for watching, as the bats go off on their exit flight at sunset. If you wake up early enough, you can also visit at dawn to see the bats’ re-entry. Tours for visiting the Bat Cave and Blanche Cave typically last an hour-long, with minimal entrance fees for adults and children. Families, school groups, and groups of children and adults may also take advantage of the discounted rates.
After visiting the Bat Cave, many visitors choose to get some adventure caving in or check out other tours. The Wonambi Fossil Centre is worth visiting as well; this is where you will find rare displays of bones and fossils that have been found in the area, plus fascinating dioramas of animals that have gone extinct.
